Asin & Prithviraj sizzle as Most Eligible Singles

Filmfare’s best debutant award winner Asin Thottumkal and Aishwarya Rai’s Raavana co-star Prithviraj Sukumaran seem to be the hot new favorites for marriage hopefuls on the Internet as per a poll conducted by According to the poll, 54% males and 49% females have voted Asin & Prithviraj respectively as
the Most Eligible Singles from among a list of 20 big stars that included Shriya Saran, Tamanna, Genelia D’souza, Trisha, Bharath, Karthik, Arya and Silambarasan among others.

Mr. Gourav Rakshit, Business Head, says, “The Most Eligible Single poll reveals that marriage hopefuls are looking for matrimonial alliances like Asin or Prithviraj, not for their appearance but because they are the youth icons of today. It goes to show that Asin & Prithviraj are not just stirring the film industry down South, they are now making a mark on the matrimonial market as well”.

With over 19 films to her credit, Asin recently made her debut appearance in Bollywood with ‘Ghajini’ and in a short span has a series of big banner projects in the pipeline. Prithviraj, at just 26, has over 47 Tamil and Malayalam films to his credit.

Mammootty and Prithviraj Comes as Brothers in Pollachi Raja

Mammootty who is known for promoting talents will once again partner with Prithviraj in the movie Pollachi Raja which was earlier titled Pokkiri Raja. Mammooty introduced directors Blessy, Lal Jose, Anwar Rasheed and Amal Neerad. He also introduced and backed many comedians like Bijukkuttan, Suraaj Venjarammood etc. Mammootty played a character named Bellary Raja in the super hit Rajamanikyam. In this film mega star is getting ready to enact another Raja character, Pollachi Raja.

Prithviraj who became an integral part of Malayalam films have proved to be a solo hero with the success of Puthiya Mugham. He will be seen as Mammootty’s brother in Pollachi Raja in which he replaced Narain. Prithvi’s character will be Sudhi. Planned with Narain this change is due to the clash of dates that Narain had, since his big project in Tamil Pookkada Ravi is not completed. This is the second time Prithviraj is getting a chance to share the screen with Mammootty. Their first outing was with Bipin Prabhakar directed One-way Ticket, which didn’t fare well at the box office. Prithviraj was seen as jeep driver who is an ardent fan of superstar Mammootty. Mammootty did a cameo role in the movie.

Casting is brought by debutante director Vaishakh Abraham, who will start directing the stars from January. Director Vaishak was earlier a television anchor and associate of directors Johnny Antony and Joshy. The filmmaker is on the look out for two suitable heroines for this movie.

Sibi K Thomas Udhaya Krishna team is in the scripting department and P. Sukumar will be in charge of the camera. Jassie Gift will score the music.

Other crews are to be decided. Produced by Tomichchan Mulagupaadam under the banner of Mulagupaadam Films it will be distributed by Mulakupadam release. Pollachi Raja will be the Vishu offering of Mammooty and Prithviraj.

Prithviraj singing on Idea Star Singer

The baddies are not so bad

There’s something sad — even sinister — in the direction the villains are heading to in Tamil cinema. Despite a select set of actors like Raghuvaran, Nasser and Prakash Raj instilling hopes that the baddie could be bad and yet as endearing as the righteous protagonist, the characters of our villains today seem to recede to those times when their sole purpose was to be the men we’d love to hate. Traditionally, in Kollywood the importance of a villain has always been on par with the hero when it comes to storyline. In fact, one acquires the status of a hero only after his encounters with this savage-tempered, foul-mouthed, devious baddie, whose sole aim seemingly would be to get bashed at, to enhance the hero’s physical might and sense of right.

In this unending saga of hero-villain one-upmanship in Kollywood, a set of unwritten rules emerged for ready reckoning of a villain and a hero. The baddie’s mental shiftiness had to be matched adequately by loathsomeness in his looks and foibles. If his physical appearance didn’t easily lend itself to such hatred and easy identification as the villain, he had to be handed over a gesture: a regular clicking of the tongue (like in Veera) or the folding and massaging of the palms (immortalised by the late M N Nambiar): a strong sign to suggest that he would be the man you would want to vanquish, a job your hero will take up for you.

And even as the heroes have gotten themselves a modern makeover, the villain largely remains the man he was like in the Nambiar-MGR times. Somewhere along the years, some actors showed villainy packaged better.

Raghuvaran proved it could be convincingly etched, without being physically imposing. One look at Baasha, and you’d fall equally for both the hero and the villain (even if the hero is a colossus like Rajinikanth). Cochin Hanifa in Mahanadhi was a classic example of the real life fraud one would encounter, sans frills. Even Prakash Raj, despite his over-the top performance in the blockbuster Ghilli, conveyed his villainy in such a hilarious way, that a film critic, years later, would quip that box-office disaster like Kuruvi “was just a ghilli with a poor villain”.

Suman convincingly played a baddie in the Rajni-starrer, Sivaji The Boss in which he would sincerely inform his opponent, ‘Sivaji, Naan romba sensitive type’ (I’m a very sensitive person), making it, perhaps, the first time such a dialogue was ever mouthed by a villain. Similarly, Prithviraj made his debut in Tamil with Kana Kandein playing a suave classmate of the heroine, who would later reveal his dark, repulsive side.

However, such changes were few and the industry is backing the histrionic likes of Kalabavan Mani, Aashish Vidyaarthi and Kota Srinivasa Rao constantly for its bad blood.

Recent additions like Mukesh Tiwari in both Pokkiri and Kandhasamy, or Akashdeep Saighal in Ayan, have done nothing new that yesteryear villains like Vinu Chakravarthy or Anandraj didn’t try in the 1980s.

Industry insiders, however, contend that Kollywood is facing an acute shortage in options for baddie roles. With Raghuvaran’s death and Prakash Raj opting for more character-based roles now, Nasser remains the only one still doing such roles. Pasupathy, who was gaining fame as a villain through films like Virumaandi, Sullan and Dhool, has also taken to supporting and lead roles.

In a role reversal of sorts, actor Jayaram, who has been known for his witty repartees, was tried as villain in Dhaam Dhoom and Saroja recently. Such a dearth for men to play such roles has cost the industry dear, and newer options are being tried out.

Rahul Dev was roped to play villain in Suriya’s Aadhavan. Rajni’s Endhiran The Robot will bring to Kollywood Danny Denzongpa, while Mani Ratnam has cast Prithviraj to play the villain in Raavana. Milind Soman, who was the villian in Pachai Kili Muthucharam, will soon be starring in similar roles for Vithagan and Paiyya.

And yet, the industry is yet to find its staple villain, like a Nambiar, Raghuvaran or Prakash Raj (who did baddie roles regularly even about four years ago). Until then, it will be back to meatless, pigeonhole villain’s roles. And there will always be men to enact them.

Ravi Kishaan excited about ‘Ravana’, past life

Mumbai, Nov 29 (IANS) The film world and the small screen now excite actor Ravi Kishaan equally. While he’s looking forward to his new avatar in Mani Ratnam’s much-awaited “Ravana”, the Bhojpuri star is also showing keen interest in past life regression therapy, thanks to a new TV show he’s hosting.
After featuring in several Bollywood films, actor Ravi Kishaan says “Ravana” will be a departure from his usual image. The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.

“I have been working with Mani Ratnam in Kerala jungles for a year and a half. I play Abhishek Bachchan’s elder brother in the film. It’s going to be a mind-blowing film and I have a parallel role in it. You’ll get to see a new me in it,” Ravi told IANS.

“Ravana” is said to be a modern interpretation of the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana. It is being made both in Hindi and Tamil and is set to release some time next year.

Ravi is all praise for National Award-winning director Mani Ratnam.

“Mani sir is mad about cinema. He loves his work a lot and his dedication is unmatched,” he said.

The 38-year-old actor says his hands are currently full with over five Bollywood films and nine Bhojpuri projects apart from a television reality show that he is set to host.

Asked how he manages it all, Ravi said: “Don’t ask! I manage somehow…keep using eyedrops to look fresh all the time.”

Starting Dec 7, Ravi will be seen anchoring NDTV Imagine’s new show “Raaz - Pichhle Janam Ka”, which has Mumbai-based clinical psychologist Trupti Jayin conducting past life regression therapy on people.

Through the show, participants are said to be able to find the reasons behind their present-day fears, phobias and physical ailments in their previous lives.

Ravi, who has been a part of reality shows like “Bigg Boss” and “Ek Se Badhkar Ek”, says he jumped at the offer to host “Raaz - Pichhle Janam Ka”.

“I was waiting for a unique show and then this came along. It’s not something that’s been done before. Of course we have read books about it, seen past life in films like ‘Karan Arjun’, but such a reality show has never happened,” he said.

Though Ravi has been actively promoting the show’s concept, he hasn’t mustered the courage to undergo the therapy himself.

“Trupti-ji wants me to undergo it. But I fear the outcome — may be I was a warrior in my past life. But she says I could either have been a saadhu (saint) or a Casanova with 200 women around me. And she says the chances are more that I would have been a Casanova. It scares me. But I’ll try the therapy one day,” Ravi said.

The actor, however, said he wouldn’t mind knowing who he was in his last birth.

“I had a fear of heights but I overcame that while shooting for ‘Luck’. I jumped from a height of 2,000 feet for one shot. But now I want to know who I was, what I did in the past life that I have gone on to become an icon for youth in north India and Bihar in this life,” Ravi said.

Mythology connects Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif

Two of the most beautiful actresses are connected by an uncanny coincidence. The forthcoming films of both the stunners are based on the religious Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Mani Ratnam’s Raavan, starring Aishwarya Rai as Sita, is based on Ramayana. It has south star Vikram playing Ash’s hubby and Abhishek Bachchan playing the villain who kidnaps Ash and takes her into a forest. Govinda’s character, based on Lord Hanuman, is that of a forest guard who helps trace Ash.
Prakash Jha’s film Rajneeti, on the other hand, is based on Mahabharata. The film, a political thriller, borrows a great deal from the politics of Mahabharata. Ranbir Kapoor plays an Arjun-like character who, with the help of his mentor, takes on his rivals. Katrina too plays a politico in the movie that stars a host of actors including Ajay Devgan, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Nana Patekar.
Both ‘Raavan’ and ‘Rajneeti’ have Ash and Katrina in non-glam roles; the stunners are dressed demurely in sarees. Another coincidence is that both the films are set to release in May next year. Though it’s unlikely that the films would clash at the marquee, they would, at best, release with a gap of two weeks in between.
Who will emerge victorious in this battle of supremacy at the box office, we’ll know next year.

Karthik to follow his friends

Karthik who had a special seat in fan’s hearts during late 80s was the only lovable romantic hero of Tamil cinema till Vijay and Ajith made it here. Due to some unknown reasons he faded out of the industry and entered politics.

Looks like Karthik is back to the business that he knows the best! Yup we can see our Navarasa Nayagan on screen as a new leaf soon. In fact he is seemingly following his contemporaries Sathyaraj and Prabhu.

Oh yeah! Now in the industry, Prabhu and Sathyaraj and sought-after people for playing strong roles and get handsome salary with ease. As we had it earlier Karthik is playing an important role(negative role) in Mani Ratnam's Tamil Version of ‘Ravana’.

Prakash Raj finalizes

Prakash Raj has finalized the star cast for the Kannada version of Abhiyum Naanum. While he will retain the role that he played in the Tamil version, Divya Spandana has been signed up to play Trisha’s role. Sithara will take up Aishwarya’s role and Ramesh Arvind will don Prithviraj’s character. Ganesh Venkatraman will do the same role that he did in Tamil. The film has been named Naanu Nanna Kanasu.
Prakash Raj’s Duet Films, which produced Abhiyum Naanum will also produce this venture. It is also worth a mention here that this national award winning actor will wield the megaphone for the first time.

Ravana and Rajneeti -Birds of a feather

The two big budget epic films, Mani Ratnam's 'Ravana' and Prakash Jha's 'Rajneeti', which are based on the Ramayana and Mahabharata respectively will be releasing around the same time. But while bothfilms were scheduled to release in February 2010, the multiplex owners strike and a few other issues have pushed the release date onto May 2010.

Both films are modern versions of mythological stories. 'Ravana' will have Aishwarya play Sita. 'Rajneeti' will have show Katrina in a never-before-seen avatar. Thefilms are alike in more than one aspect. Both have already had controversies -Nana Patekar walked out of 'Rajneeti' a little before the end of the shooting and Bipasha Basu was asked to leave 'Ravana' before the shoot.

They have also had their share of disasters. Ravana's sets saw a flood while Rajneeti's sets saw Manoj Bajpai's accident. And now, the movies will be releasing in the same fortnight as each other. Audiences are eager to see the fate of these two at the box-office.

Did Bipasha lie about her role?

BIPASHA BASU MAY scream from the rooftops that it was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s insecurity that got her ousted from Ravana but industry insiders are refusing to believe her.

In fact, a source tells us that Bipasha was never considered to be a part of Ravana, in the first place.

Director Mani Ratnam likes having item numbers in his movies - like he did in Dil Se (Chaiya Chaiya) and in Guru (Maiya Maiya) and was toying with the idea of having something similar in Ravana as well.

Sources from the set of the film say Mani was planning to introduce the character of Mandodari, Ravana’s beautiful wife into the film. This character was to do a seductive item number and a few scenes and then exit, an exact seven minute role. When news spread that Mani was scouting for an actress to do an item number and a guest appearance in his film, Bipasha was one of the first actresses to push herself for this role.

“The character of Mandodari called for someone sexy and seductive, and many actresses were being considered. Bipasha wasn’t even on the top of Mani’s list. But Bipasha went ahead and told the press that she was offered a supporting role in Ravana,” says the source.

Unfortunately for her Mani had second thoughts about this item number.

When Bipasha heard this she got nervous. She was worried that she would become a joke in the industry. A source close to her reveals, “Bipasha had announced to all and sundry that she was playing the parallel lead in a Mani Ratnam film. This would definitely add to her market rate. But when she heard that the role was non-existent Bipasha realised she would become the laughing stock of the industry.

“Bipasha flew to Kerala and pleaded with Mani Sir not to talk to the press that she was never the first choice for the film. Initially angry at her behaviour Mani, later, understood her plight and obliged her.”

However, Mani was later shocked when he heard from the grapevine that Bipasha was claiming that Aishwarya had used her friendship with his wife to oust Bipasha from the film.

The source reveals, “Mani Sir doesn’t pay attention to gossip. He just laughed it off and remarked ‘if I let my wife and my heroines decide the cast of my film, I might as well let them direct the whole film’. Bipasha, apparently, has now become a joke on the set of the film.§ion=citytimes&col=

College tale has something for everyone

Down South
Nov 22, 2009 12:00 AM | By Devan Nair

Although Ninaithale Inikkum shares its title with a 1979 classic movie with Kamalhassan and Rajnikanth in the lead roles, the film is clearly not a remake but is based on the hit Malayalam movie Classmates.

Prithviraj, Shakthi, Karthik and Priyamani share the lead roles, with veteran writer and director K Bhagyaraj in a major role. The film is directed by debutante GN Kumaravelan, the son of popular director GN Rungarajan.

Ninaithale Inikkumis a beautifully woven tale with something for everyone. Although it is essentially a college story, the issues apply across all ages and backgrounds.

The film opens with Shiva (Prithviraj) returning to his alma mater for the opening of a new wing. However, it is also a reunion for the students whose lives have been greatly influenced by their time at college.

Although the title suggests a lot of sweet memories about their college days, there are also some painful memories that return to haunt some of them.

Never before has there been a film that so accurately captures the spirit of college life with such vigour and realism.

There is the moving story of enmity between Vasu and Shiva and their mutual friend, Shakthi (Shakthi), who tries to bring them together. There is also the romance that unfolds between Siva and Meera (Priyamani) and the challenges that come their way.

In addition, there is the love of Shakthi's father (Bhagyaraj) whose understanding of human nature touches one's soul.

More than anything, Ninaithale Inikkum is a celebration of life through the eyes of its young director.

What captures and maintains interest is the strong element of suspense throughout the film, proving that a story's screenplay is more important than the story itself. There are many major turning points until the hair-raising turn of events before intermission opens the way for a shocking climax.

Apart from the well-crafted screenplay and script, Ninaithale Inik- kum has some outstanding performances. Prithviraj handles the role of Shiva with spirit and realism, playing the same role he played in the Malayalam version.

National award winner Priyamani plays the role of Meera with passion. Her powerful facial expressions and expressive eyes transform her character into an unforgettable one.

Kathik is in one of his most impressive roles of his career.

However, the star of the film is Shakthi (son of P Vasu), who has made huge improvements in his acting since his debut in Thottaal Poo Malarum.

A close second to this role is Bhagyaraj, who gives new meaning to the term "Old is Gold".

The film's other star is its music composer, Vijay Anthony, who has written some melodious songs, including the hauntingly beautiful Nanbanai Paarthu.

This is an impressive first-effort from director Kumaravelan. It is one of the few films in recent times that the entire family can watch without being embarrassed by any scene. Ninaithale Inikkum is a very touching story and should not be missed.

Police Police Preview

It has been a very common feature to see the cops being shown in dark light and corrupt individuals in the movies. While eight out of ten movies have been showing them like that, a new trend began slowly where policemen were shown as heroes and that too those who stood by discipline and justice. With that came movies like ‘Vikramarkudu’ ‘Gharshana’ ‘Salute’ ‘Raghavan’ ‘Siddham’ and others. So now, here is one movie that seems to be belonging to the same genre and this has been aptly titled ‘Police Police’.

The film has the Tamil handsome hero Sriram in the lead and he has teamed up with the Malayalam hero Prithviraj who is making his debut. Both of them will be seen as cops in the movie and their leading ladies are Kamalini Mukherjee and Sanjana respectively. The story revolves around two cops and their different methods to deal with convicts and criminals. The film has been directed by Manmohan while the producer of the film is Chandu. The music has been composed by the trendy music director Chakri.

The movie happens to be an outright cop extravaganza and it is said that the film has got some high technical values which will make it a treat to watch. As it is, the beach song featuring Kamalini Mukherjee has been causing quite a lot of curiosity since this is the first time she has become that bold. Also, the reaction from the audience will be interesting to see as we have a hero from Tamil and another one from Malayalam who are trying their hand at a straight Telugu flick.

A Article about Thanthonny (Malayalam)

Priyamani pinning her hopes on Mani's 'Ravan'

Despite her slim frame, beauty, smile and a original voice to top it all, actress Priyamani has somehow been unable to reign over Kollywood. The actress, who has achieved reasonable success in Telugu films, won her national award for the best actress for the Tamil film 'Paruthiveeran' in a deglamourized role.

She tried to change her image in successive films but couldn't do much to enter the public memory as an actress with substance. Her latest Tamil film 'Ninaithalae Inikkum' did reasonably well and she is now awaiting the release of Maniratnam's 'Raavan', where she has played a significant role opposite Prithviraj.

The film stars Vikram, Abishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Vaiyapuri and others besides Priyamani and Prithviraj. Speaking about the experience of working with Maniratnam, Priyamani said that it was a 'different' experience and said that Mani wanted realism in his films more than anything else. Mani also manouevred to ensure that the dialogues and the dialogue-delivery by the artistes are perfect.

Saying that she would be choosy about her roles in Tamil films, Priyamani wishes Ameer that his forthcoming 'Yogi' would do well. Priyamani's logic is that when Ameer works round-the-clock for others' films, he could only have done a fabulous job in his own film.

Prithvi plays a mass character!

Prithviraj after the super success of his Puthiya Mugham and the grand opening of Robin Hood is now rated as number three in Mollywood.

Last week, the actor started the shoot of his new mass masala entertainer Thanthoni, directed by debutant George Vargheese. The film is produced by leading distributor Marakkar Films Shahul Hameed.

In Thanthoni, written by TA Shaheed, Prithvi will play the role of a reckless young man Vadakanveetil Kochukunju, a guy who brings a bad name to his family due to his dirty deals and uncouth behaviour.

Sheela a popular actress in Telugu who did Mayabazar with Mammootty will play Prithvi’s heroine. The others in the cast are Ambika who will play his mom, Kalabhavan Mani, Vijayaraghavan, Thilakan, Jagathy, Saikumar, Captain Raju, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Suresh Krishna, Sadique, Sudhish, Aditya and Lakshmi Priya.

The brat turns a new leaf

Prithviraj-starrer ‘Thanthonni' is directed by debutant George Varghese.

The hero and his confidante stalk out of a huge bungalow in a huff and they head to a jeep parked in front of the house. The shot is perfect and more action ensues at the location of debutant director George Varghese's film ‘Thanthonni.' Prithviraj and Suraj Venjarammoodu are facing the camera.

“Kochu Kunju (Prithviraj), the youngest member of the wealthy Vadakkan Veettil family, happens to be a brat who is enjoying life on his own terms. It is a huge household where he lives with his mother, three uncles and their families. All in the family are well-placed and rich, except for Kochu Kunju, who has been a troublemaker right from his childhood,” says the director.

Title with a punch

Says Prithviraj with a smile: “I have been perceived as a ‘Thanthonni' for long since I love doing things my way. The film was earlier called ‘Kutti Kurumban' but I wanted to have more punch to its title. When the title ‘Thanthonni' came up, I thought it was perfect for the film.” However, scenarist T.A. Shahid explains that Kochu Kunju is a victim of circumstance.

Cinematographer Sajith Menon gives instructions to his assistants regarding the lighting as yesteryear actor Ambika, who plays Prithviraj's mother, gets ready to face the camera. A portion of Netto's bungalow, a landmark at Edakochi, where the shooting is going on, has been converted into a mansion.

“The scene that we are canning shows Kochu Kunju and Achu (Suraj Venjarammood) being sent to a de-addiction centre by his mother. But he has been told that they are going for the inauguration of a bar and so he is quite enthused about it,” adds the director.

Telugu actor Shelia, who was earlier seen in 'Maya Bazar,' plays the heroine. “She is a bubbly tomboy who works as a junior scientist and loves everything about Kochu Kunju, including his wayward lifestyle.”

Kalabhavan Mani plays a goonda called Neelakantan. Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayaraghavan, Captain Raju and Suresh Krishna also play important roles in the film. The other locations, besides Kochi, are Ottappalam, Pollachi and Dubai.

‘Thanthonni' is being produced by Marikar films and will reach theatres in January. Lyrics by Gireesh Puthenchery and T.A. Shahid have been composed by Tej Mervin. Still photographer is Mohan Surabhi.

Prithviraj is a Thanthonni?

He has long been regarded as a Thanthonni, which means someone who is headstrong and does things on his own without caring about others.

Prithviraj agrees he is one -- in real life too. No wonder, he thinks it's the perfect title for his forthcoming film as well.

Scripted by T A Shahid and directed by debutant George Varghese, the Malayalam film talks about Kochu Kunju (Prithviraj), the youngest kid of a wealthy joint family who lives life on his own terms.

Sai Kumar and Ambika play Prithviraj's parents in the film.

Shahid has earlier scripted hugely successful films like Rajamanikyam, Balettan, Ali Bhai and Mambazhakkalam among others.

According to the director, "Kochu Kunju has a valid reason to behave like this and deep inside, he is a nice man. He belongs to a well-off family but has to turn to his mother for money. It's an entertaining film, with an interesting storyline."

Telugu actor Sheela plays the heroine in Thanthonni. She has earlier played the female lead in Maya Bazar, in Malayalam. She plays Helen, a junior scientist at the ISRO and a tomboy herself, who is in love with Kochu Kunju's style.

The cast also includes Kalabhavan Mani, Jagathy Sreekumar, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Captain Raju and Vijayaraghavan. The film is being shot in Kochi, Ottappalam and Pollachi.

Sajith Menon wields the camera and Tej Mervin scores the music for Thanthonni.

The shooting of Thanthonni, produced by Marikar films, has just started in Kochi.

Robinhood cross fifty days

Joshy's Robinhood covers an unbeaten fifty in its released six theatres. The film starring Prithviraj as a thief did gained much applause by the audience. Prithvi cast as Robinhood in the film. Mammootty's Loud Speaker has also crossed its fifty. Both the films are declared as an average one.
The biggest hit of the recent time is Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja which is successfully running in seventy released centres in its second month. It has already collected 10 crores. Mohanlal's Angel John is said to be the biggest flop so far. Dileep's Swa Le and Kerala Cafe is struggling.

Robinhood, Loudspeaker into fifty

Joshy's ‘Robinhood’ and Jayaraj's ‘Loudspeaker’ completed fifty days run, this week. While ‘Robinhood’ was able to complete a fifty in six centres, ‘Loudspeaker’ managed to cross fifty in a lone centre at Thiruvananthapuram. Both the movies are already declared as average hits in the Box Office. ‘Loudspeaker’ managed to cling on to the success rope only due to its very low budgeting which helped the movie to complete its production below three crores. ‘Robinhood’ was a costly affair at 4.5 crores including prints, but the movie earned well in its initial two weeks, which helped it to end up as an average earner.
Meanwhile, the biggest hit of recent times ‘Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja’ is still continuing in 70 release centres in its second month. The movie has already collected over 10 crores from its first 25 days. Mohanlal's ‘Angel John’ is now declared as one of the biggest flops from the star, this decade. The movie just manages to be in nine centres in its fourth week, of which more than in five centres, it is only being screened as noon shows. Dileep's ‘Swa.Le’ is also a downer, but is definitely not a washout. The movie is still being shown at 35 centres in its fourth week.
Renjith's experimental movie ‘Kerala Café’ is gradually gaining more and more viewers, mainly due to mouth publicity. Had the makers insisted on a safe landing advertisements in the early days, the movie could have easily become a big hit.
